How to ask out a fireman?

ok this is uncomfortable but i'm interested in asking out a member of the fire brigade who came by to do a home safety visit at my home a few weeks ago. i think he was slightly interested in me. he was friendly, charming and funny and as he left he mentioned perhaps seeing me around the neighbourhood if i ped the fire station, if we don't meet again. he also made a point of remembering my name often when we spoke and cracked some corny jokes about my noisy dining table. i should have maybe said something at the time. and i've sadly forgotten his name but know where he works. i don't know what all this says. i got a couple of ideas of what to do but am i sounding desperate and silly here.
