Is my life in danger..health question?

im 17 to start off. ok about 2 years ago, i found myself quite itchy in the private area..and noticed slight odor. i was too young to expect anything until recently (about 5 months ago) i went to a doctor and they determined that i had vaginitis..i think thats what its called. but anyway, i was prescribed something, i took it as directed, and it didnt work. so now im sitting here with the same problem and iknow it sounds bad but im goin on about 3 years with this problem. whats holding me back from checking this out? im overweight and verryyyyyy embarred when it comes to doctors and my private area. is my life at risk? could i die from something like this going untreated? suggestions and answers, please!!!! big thanks to those who respond.
