New dhaka or old london?

I was watching a programme on BBC last night about Bricklane in London also known as spittlefield, it was where all the ethnics lived, Huguenots then the Jews and now Bengali Muslims. the place looks like an absolute sh'it hole compared to what it was back in the 60's-70's. every available property is a curry house now. the jews had all their tailoring shops there then they moved out, next batch in was bangladeshi's and then the council changed the name from spittlefields/bricklane to banglatown. 300 years of history wiped out in a pen stroke to suit a minority. and the place is a mess, i wouldn't let a dog live there. does your town have an old town, an historical part which is untouched by the trendies or ethnics?
